About this artwork
Soda cans are at their simplest containers for liquids. But they have become a vehicle for advertising, a celebration of branding and consumerism at its most extreme. The energy and cost, both monetarily and environmentally of producing said cans far exceeds that of the value of the 330ml of sugary temptation. But volume sales make the expense worth it, so much so that these miniature artworks are consumed by their millions and then the empty cans…
disposed of with hardly a second glance. This piece is aimed at re-configuring these ignored artifacts so as to draw the viewer in and perhaps to allow them to reflect on some of the beauty and design that went into creating a product that is usually destined for a very short life span. The title of The Ghost is a reference to how this piece changes with the light with the central ring all but disappearing under certain conditions.
