About this artwork
This painting was first started towards the end of 2023 and then finished in early 2024. It was part of the beginning of this new direction my paintings have been going where I am remaining more loose and expressive while achieving a realistic, painterly quality to each unique piece. At the age of 15, on a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago with his parents, Jonathan Mcafee was stopped in his tracks by Warhol's 'Mao,' and definitely marked the start of his artistic pursuits. Today, Mcafee is busy composing expressive portraits centred on the theme of memory.
