About this artwork
This portrait painting was created in 2017 as he was experimenting with different ways of applying paint to his surfaces. He was interested in creating motion and movement with his portraits and this particular painting is a successful example of him accomplishing that. Set on a monochromatic background, the portrait itself comes across as muted compared to many of his other paintings. This powerful painting rests in a black, wooden floater frame.

At the age of 15, on a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago with his parents, Jonathan Mcafee was stopped in his tracks by Warhol's 'Mao,' and definitely marked the start of his artistic pursuits. Today, Mcafee is busy composing expressive portraits centred on the theme of memory.
