About this artwork
This is part of the artist's "paint over" series of portraits. McAfee has done a total of 4 so far and this is his latest. The idea is to take portraits that he is currently working on but can't find a traditional way to finish, thus allowing him the freedom to paint over them to the point of having the subject begin to disappear.

At the age of 15, on a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago with his parents, Jonathan Mcafee was stopped in his tracks by Warhol's 'Mao,' and definitely marked the start of his artistic pursuits. Today, Mcafee is busy composing expressive portraits centred on the theme of memory.
