About this artwork
This painting is part of a large body of work created for a solo exhibition the artist is having in Indianapolis, Indiana in June, 2020. The idea behind the series is to find images on Instagram that people have shared in which the artist finds stimulating and interesting. In an attempt to make random Instagram posts have larger and longer-lasting meaning, Jonathan is taking these images and making them into expressive paintings.

At the age of 15, on a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago with his parents, Jonathan Mcafee was stopped in his tracks by Warhol's 'Mao,' and definitely marked the start of his artistic pursuits. Today, Mcafee is busy composing expressive portraits centred on the theme of memory.
