About this artwork
This vibrant and colorful portrait is one of the first paintings in a large body of work that I began at the end of 2023 and continued to work on as we entered 2024. This entire series is a flash of explosive energy that I have been pouring into my studio practice. At the age of 15, on a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago with his parents, Jonathan Mcafee was stopped in his tracks by Warhol's 'Mao,' and definitely marked the start of his artistic pursuits. Today, Mcafee is busy composing expressive portraits centred on the theme of memory.
