About this artwork
Political and social satire. Several interpretations are possible through this setting. The statue of Neptune (Trevi Fountain) undoubtedly reminds us of (Roman) mythology and the related legends, created from scratch by Man, in his own image, in order to justify or rather to give meaning to his existence. This one, colossal (a metaphor for humanity's hold on its environment, its excessive ego...) stands balanced on the edge of a bridge, of which…
only a pillar remains, an artefact of a vanished civilisation, humanity on the brink of a precipice. The second interpretation would be a nod to the "woke" movement in its original, non-pejorative meaning, advocating equality and social justice. If one observes closely, the statue is being unbolted, a rope stretched across the arm, which once held the authoritarian trident in a firm hand, the figure of a disconnected Patriarchy, finally dethroned from its self-assigned status...
Jonathan Ouisse
France
« My painting will not leave you indifferent, whether you like it or not, there is nothing trivial about it and it doesn't just follow an artistic trend or an aesthetic trend to please. »
Jonathan Ouisse is a French artist who has exhibited his paintings in Hungary, the United Kingdom, and France. Influenced by the pictorial gestures of the Italian Renaissance and the hip hop scene in the 1990s, his pop surrealist works are often 'grotesque'. Ouisse ridicules humanity for its vanity through symbolism inspired by politics, the media, environmental upheavals, and childhood. He creates using acrylics and spray paint on canvas or wood.
