About this artwork
An abstract gestural work evoking the colours of wide open desert and space. I used a variety of techniques including brush and knife to add and remove layers to build a comprehensive abstract work.
Taking over 2 months to complete, the work began life as a minimalist colour field abstraction, however after much contemplation and looking it screamed for something more gestural. At times I left the work to dry and look at the composition, adding… small touches here and there, with intermittent periods of scraping off passages and charcoal work that had not gelled with my intent.
I prefer to keep the signature off the front of these works as it would distract from the impact I intend - and the signature itself is a simple informative text block on the reverse.
The artwork does not require framing.
