About this artwork
Highway E34, Belgium. A monumental concrete strip cutting the flat Flemish landscape in two. An 'endless' straight line between the Dutch border and Antwerp. Unique in its own way, sometimes ugly and most of the times desolate and empty. But most of all surprisingly interesting for those who are willing to notice.
First I made my underpainting in acrylic and Gesso. This to create a solid texture for the following layers. Then I started working on… multiple layers of thick and thin traits of acrylic, finished with a semi glossy varnish.

Joost Verhagen is a dedicated Dutch painter who has exhibited his work in Belgium, India and the Netherlands.
