About this artwork
Surrounded by textures of greyish blue, dark boding movements pull the viewer towards the distressed centre. Glimpses of light are overshadowed by formless strings of black that circle the grimly etched focal point. This moving piece was inspired by a friend of the artist who was left quadriplegic after being run down by a reckless driver. All profits to be donated.
Excerpt from the victim statement:
"I remember feeling tall, strong, healthy. Now… I feel weak. I know fear now, doubt, isolation, anxiety, fear of death, loss of hope. I would cut off both my legs to be a father, that's the sacrifice I would make. I saw myself in the mirror the other morning. I barely recognised the body I saw. I don't like my body now, it doesn't work. It's fat, ugly, I can't feel it. The fear of death visits me every day. Every time my weakened body succumbs to a new infection, I wonder if this is the one that will end it."

« My artwork was born from my experiences as a security scientist and is a reflection of my ongoing struggle with the nature of humankind and what it means to be human. »
Jordan J. Plotnek is an experienced Australian-Brazilian painter with international exposure. Working within abstract expressionism he gains inspiration from his scientific research and nomadic travels to investigate the nature of humanity; particularly in response to pressing contemporary issues such as international security, climate change, and globalisation. Plotnek's work treads the line between captivating and uncomfortable, luring the viewer in and provoking them to engage with their own psyche and question the world around them.
