Names in Arabic form a sea, as if only he recognized them, as if only he knew of their existence, lost in their tragic fusion.
In the sand, traces of a day at the beach with the family.
One sea, one place… Two realities.
In this work, I confront the everyday beauty of the sea with its darker side.
The Mediterranean, a symbol of play, light and life, also becomes a scene of absences.
Between iron, plastic, cardboard, and paint, two worlds rise… up that coexist without touching: that of leisure and that of shipwreck, that of those who enjoy the shore and that of those who never return.
Names written in Arabic are more than letters: they are memory.
The sea keeps them, pronounces them in its own way, returns them transformed into silence.
Because tragedy also lives beneath the blue surface.
Garcia Bel (Tortosa, Tarragona) is a visual artist and sculptor. He sees art as a form of awareness and resistance to the degradation of the planet. His poetic and powerful work reflects on the fragility of nature, the relationship between humans and their environment, and the transformative power of materials.
Trained at the Amposta School of Art and the Escola Massana (UAB), he works with recycled materials: iron, wood, stone, and plastic become metaphors of resistance and rebirth.
He has exhibited at the Aragó Gallery, the MUCBE, Les Aules, the Fundació Caixa Vinaròs or Art Beijing, and is the author of public works such as Transmutació (Vinaròs), Un bri d'esperança (Benicarló) or Intel·ligència naturalista (Sant Jordi). Folia i Prades 2023 Award.
