About this artwork
The work presents a vibrant, modern interpretation of a geisha, whose central figure is constructed through a dynamic collage of recycled materials. The geisha's face, delicate and serene, is fused with fragments of paper, fabric and repurposed objects, giving it a unique texture and a connection to the contemporary world. Bright colours dominate the composition, from deep reds to golds and blues, creating a striking contrast that highlights the… classic beauty of the geisha while inviting reflection on sustainability and the reinvention of the traditional. The work not only captures the elegance and grace of the female figure in Japanese culture, but also pays homage to recycling as an art form.
« My restlessness makes me constantly think about my characters. »
Josep Pozo is a Spanish painter who has exhibited his works in numerous solo events nationally. While he says his style isn't singular, but varied, one of the main features in his compositions is the ambiguity of the characters he portrays. Pozo highlights their characteristics and leaves it up to the viewer to create a narrative around their stories. He employs mixed techniques based on acrylics and collage, recycling different materials in order to obtain rich textures.
