The artwork references various histories, from how our ancestors evolved through their adaptation to living in open grasslands that expanded throughout the entire course of human evolution, to the rise of civilization through farming, and the cultivation… of wild grasses.

Joseph Johnson is an Australian-born artist currently based in London. Growing up on a flower farm, Johnson developed an early appreciation of nature. Pursuing art academically, he studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney and earned an MA at Central Saint Martins in London. His work centres on portraiture and landscape painting.
