About this artwork
This portrait s made using a resist technique. I draw out aspects of this image with oil pastel, and wax crayon, before stamp printing the entire composition with a gelatin plate press. I then use the paint that is not resisted on the gelatin plate to build this image up, to what you see here.

Joshua Bowe is an experienced British painter with national exposure. He primarily works from the figure, be it via portraiture or full figure studies, combining depictions of the human body with his imagination to compose unexpected collections of color, pattern and light. A central notion in his work is that of retrieval; Bowe deconstructs his paintings to a point of near oblivion before discerning their focal point and rendering them complete.
