About this artwork
Jovanitha painted a mini series entitled Happiness featuring cartoon characters of her childhood, the Smurfette, Olive Oil and Pink Panther. She did them in oil, because she loves how it captures light and shines. Her work is greatly influenced by pop art masters like Keith Haring or Roy Lichtenstein. She loves the joyful feeling that emanate from their paintings.
This series is directly inspired by 2020, the year the world went into lockdown. To… survive, she began to think about happiness and particularly the situations that bring her happiness. She also asked her Instagram followers, what keeps them going. She then painted their answers as a way of documenting, remembering. For Michael, happiness is a cat next to you on the couch.
