About this artwork
I walked outside and the afternoon's sun touched the tips of the bare trees and snow over hills. I used shimmering blues, oranges, pinks and grays, crafted with highest quality Windsor Newton Oil Paints. The shadows on the snow were brilliant colors that I tried to depict.

Joylene Johnson is a painter with a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, trained in both fine art and architectural illustration. She employs oils with a contemporary realistic style, skillfully layering translucent colors after a warm-toned underpainting, often adhering to classic compositional rules. Her technique creates luminescence and movement, especially when capturing water, ocean light, and atmospheric variations. Her art conveys a powerful sense of place, tranquility, and the ever-changing dance of light across water, inviting viewers to feel the personal connection she has with her landscapes and seascapes. She has won awards and been featured in juried exhibits. Her work will be on display at Schlow Region Library, Penn State Campus this summer. She exhibited with the SoCalPAPA Plein Air group in Orange County, the San Clemente Art Assoc.Plein Aire event, and regularly in their gallery.
