Concrete Composition 22 (For David Novros) is another example of my continuing Concrete Compositions Series. It is a homage to David Novros, born in 1941, who is an American abstract painter often associated with The Minimalist School. David Novros is known for his monumental, chromatic and abstract paintings composed of irregularly shaped, multipaneled canvases that he has exhibited since the 1960s.
A sojourn in Europe was transformative for… his art, and among the influential discoveries he made were the Italian early Renaissance fresco paintings with their immersive power.
Many of his works consists of browns, grays, blues, greens and other earth tone colors in geometric shapes. Due to David Novro's interest in wall painting, he has distanced himself from the art market and rarely exhibits in commercial galleries, but has exhibited with the Paula Cooper Gallery.
This acrylic painting is on Arteza 11 x 14 inch, 246 lb (27.9 x 35.5 cm, 400 gm) paper.
« My intentions are to force a new dialogue inherent to abstraction that started in the early 1900s and continues to be relevant to this day. »
Juan Jose Hoyos Quiles is an American artist whose works have been exhibited in the United States. Fueled by his love of abstraction, he identifies as being an abstract, geometric, and hard-edge painter. Quiles'bold and minimalist compositions follow the visual codes of concrete and non-objective art. He likens his artistic process to a dance, where he continuously explores new steps between color and geometry.
