About this artwork
At the mouth of the Douro River is this Farolim da Barra do Douro, in Portugal. In this sharp perspective, the painter presents us with the Lighthouse on the coast of Portugal where the light of sunset turns this work of warm tones. The view goes to the lighthouse, located in a golden point that contrasts with the diagonals that visually lead us to it. There is a stillness in the scene and the atmosphere achieved suggests relaxation. This increases… it through the chromatic range represented. Soft contrasts of blue tones in the sea with pale and salmon pinks in the sky merge to yellows that reveal very pale blue tones. The painter flees from the representation of figures in the work. He argues that only the space attracted him to paint it and despite the fact that this place is always very crowded, he captured a type of solitude and calm that the architecture of the walk to the lighthouse offered him and the calm that the sea had at that time.
