About this artwork
Clouds is an early work, created at a time when the painter was beginning to establish himself in the professional gallery world. It is an experimental piece, focused on the study of composition, materials, and visual perception.
The vertical composition is articulated in two bands: an upper one in a gray tone, worked with linear textures that evoke the coldness and hardness of steel or a metallic surface, and a lower one, wider, with a black and… dense texture.
Two rectangular shapes, similar to photographs adhered with cellophane paper, emerge from these surfaces, representing clouds. The contrast between the material and the ethereal creates a subtle trompe l'oeil, where silent geometry orders the space and proposes a poetic reflection on reality, the image, and its artifice.
Juan Manuel Álvarez Cebrián is an award-winning figurative realist painter from Spain. In his photorealistic works, landscapes, animals and the study of simple shapes and textures take priority.
