About this artwork
"Dad" is a very personal work that I painted for my father for his 60th birthday. It's not a classic depiction, but rather a visual collage of symbols associated with him—a portrait with his signature hat and cigar, his dog, his company logo, and, of course, the number 60.
I didn't want to simply paint a picture, but to tell a story—his story. The many colors, shapes, and layers represent everything that defines him: his versatility, his strength,… his idiosyncrasies. Between order and chaos, structure and freedom, I united all the elements that make him so special to me.
“Dad” is my thanks, my memory and my love – captured in a work that shows him as I see him.
