About this artwork
A continuing theme in my work is about the various parts of Self. The cool blue represents a part of the artist which is logical, cool and measured. The red is the dynamic, passionate and exuberant element of self: a necessary part but not allowed to be in charge, which is why it remains at the bottom of the painting. The overall quality of these themes is depicted by nature because the human is not differentiated by her environment and the artist…
lives near forests, which she frequents. Shadows of tall timbers can be seen to the right.

« I love colour. I love formlessness. Within these two are freedom from overthinking and rationalising, which is our Western tradition. I paint to be: abstracts are generous, forgiving and healing. »
Julia Swaby is a passionate British painter with international exposure. Before becoming an artist, she taught Philosophy of Mind and Psychology for over fifteen years, until her passion for abstract painting surpassed her interest in academia. Working from the belief that color is life, she composes works that appear saturated in vivid color and free in their formlessness.
