« All I'm doing is making pictures by pushing colored dirt around on a surface. This is humbling. My work is flawed, much like humans, but that is the type of beauty I strive for. »
Julian Tejera describes himself as a representational painter because he believes in the 'inherent empathy of being able to relate with that which we recognize'. The American painter also practices realism to keep his skills sharp and is fascinated by the psychology of abstraction and its ability to allow the viewer to tap into something deeper than the surface experience. With Tejera's techniques being both random and restrictive, he intentionally starts chaotically and works his way towards clarity.
