About this artwork
"Flos Ruber" emerged from an inner tension between stillness and movement. The red and pink areas dominate the canvas and represent vibrancy, warmth, and vulnerability simultaneously. Dark, almost black, and blue sections interspersed among them, creating depth and revealing inner contrasts.
The shapes are reminiscent of blossoms, without actually depicting one. Rather, I'm interested in the feeling of growth and transience, a fragmented blossoming.… The acrylic paint was applied in several layers – sometimes as a glaze, sometimes thickly – creating a vibrant, almost organic structure.
For me, the painting is an emotional space, an abstract garden where memories and feelings overlap. The viewer is invited to develop their own associations and discover personal "blossoms" within this colorful tapestry.
Julian Verweyen is a painter with a background in drawing, painting, and graphic design, enriched by influences from street art and over four decades of artistic exploration. His approach combines abstract-figurative forms, vibrant colors, dynamic structures, and a distinctive interplay of control and spontaneity. This results in multifaceted, expressive works that blend classical and urban techniques. His art conveys profound emotions and encourages self-reflection.
