Julien Vignikin

Benin

Julien Vignikin, a painter and sculptor born in Ouidah, Benin, and trained at the Dijon School of Fine Arts, draws on his personal history marked by exile and cultural fusion. He uses found objects, assemblages, and repurposed materials to blend Beninese tradition with Western modernity, combining barrel staves, wax prints, clay, and electronic components. His raw, expressionistic art, featuring masks and installations that evoke identity fractures, Vodou memory, and a sharp critique of globalization, conveys a powerful emotion of tension, hybridity, and hope for reconciliation.
