About this artwork
I have been living in cities my whole life, which gives me the opportunity to observe many different people. Nowadays, people are stressed, lonely and insecure. They suppress their feelings and let a painful silence consume their minds. I want to express that in my work. In this painting, a young, short hair girl leans on an elevator, turning away from the viewers. Next to her is a poster of Roy Lichtenstein’s Drowning Girl, suggesting her struggles…
inside. We don’t know if the elevator is going up or down, or if it’s even going anywhere. The girl looks fatigued. Standing in the corner of this quiet, cold elevator, she seems to be sinking down the water too.
