Discover the creation in interiors
Constrained is part of a Covid-19 series and seeks to capture the anxiety caused by exterior forces throughout daily life. Wave upon wave of paint are physically pushed toward the center, symbolizing a myriad of formal and informal rules and circumstances that may leave one feeling pressured and overwhelmed.
Constrained includes oil paint and plaster which was added in multiple layers over several weeks. This texture allows a viewer to continually… discover new elements of the work as the eye scans across the canvas.

« My goal with each work is to create visual moments that promote continued interest and excitement; pieces that feel fresh at each viewing. »
Justin Brown is an American artist whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. He describes his artistic practice as primarily focusing on the juxtaposition of color, depth, and texture. While some of his compositions are intended to convey a specific sentiment, emotion, or reaction, others deliver more subtle messages through the interplay of colors and textures. His distinctive abstractions are created using oils and plaster on canvas.
