Drinking up the clouds tears fall blue
Wind wipes away and dies
One of her favourite experiences is just looking up to the sky and watching the clouds. She wrote the poem and made the artwork that expresses the every changing light and movement. IShe hopes you will experience this in her work.
She grows and makes my own woad dyes and pigments. The labour intensive process is… part of the artwork. She loves that she able to do this and produce colours that otherwise wouldn't been seen. The soil, water and weather all play a unique role as well as making the dye and waiting patiently for the pigment to reveal its self. She fold sthe fine Japanese Paper then dip in the vats over and over till I get the colour I want.
'Drinking Up The Clouds' is framed in a clear acrylic custom made box frame , mounted on museum board and ready to hang.

U.S. painter, textile artist, and sculptor Justine Johnson has exhibited work in the U.S, U.K, France, and Latvia. Johnson makes her own non-toxic indigo fermentation vats, and then folds Japanese paper into various shapes before dipping it multiple times in the vats. Johnson then uses 24 karat gold leafing to repair the natural tears that appear during this labor-intensive process. Johnson's indigo and gold pieces have a depth of color and intensity of emotion reflective of their powerful creation process.
