About this artwork
She is inspired by the idea of physics, the night sky and the process which she uses to make her works.
After the folding and un folding , The many dips in her natural indigo vats all to increase the depth of the indigo colours. All coming together with 24k gold leaf and a staple of red welsh wool.

U.S. painter, textile artist, and sculptor Justine Johnson has exhibited work in the U.S, U.K, France, and Latvia. Johnson makes her own non-toxic indigo fermentation vats, and then folds Japanese paper into various shapes before dipping it multiple times in the vats. Johnson then uses 24 karat gold leafing to repair the natural tears that appear during this labor-intensive process. Johnson's indigo and gold pieces have a depth of color and intensity of emotion reflective of their powerful creation process.
