“105” is part of The Essence, a series that looks at the realities of everyday workers and how their craft is often something they genuinely care about, but also something they rely on to get by.
This artwork began as a photograph and was reworked digitally. It shows two traditional musicians standing under triangle-shaped beams made from the ₦100 and ₦5 notes, which together inspire the title.
The use of currency hints at the balance many workers… face. The pride they take in what they do, and the simple need to earn a living. “105” captures that mix of passion, culture, and survival in one moment.
