About this artwork
2025 “Plan B” Oil on canvas, 160 x 210 cm
“Plan B” is a vivid meditation on survival and identity. Through a composition of layered complexity, the painting channels the emotional spectrum of human experience—its suffering, its joy, and its resilience. Stoop’s expressive use of color and gesture is contrasted by precise, meaningful details, creating a dynamic tension that speaks directly to the viewer.
The artist’s unique, irrational visual language… constructs an abstract concept that nonetheless evokes deeply human sensations. This work is not merely a painting—it is a state of being, captured in the moment of creation. It invites the viewer into an intimate, inner ocean, one that mirrors the raw truth of our own existence.
“Plan B” is emblematic of Stoop’s broader artistic practice: a search for authenticity, for presence, and for the transformative power of abstraction. It opens a door—not just to a painting, but to a way of seeing.

« I consider myself as a traveller and observer, expressing my reality and relation with the universe through painting. »
Karel Stoop (b. 1951, Made, Netherlands) is a Dutch abstract painter known for emotionally intuitive, layered compositions. Educated in the Netherlands and Barcelona, his work is shaped by global travels and deep existential inquiry. Stoop paints exclusively in Tarragona, Spain, where he explores themes of transformation, perception, and universal connection. Using oils, pigments, and industrial tools, his process is meditative and performative, guided by intuition over logic. Influenced by Rembrandt, Turner, Tapies, and Barcelo, his work has been exhibited across Europe and collected internationally. He is founder of the International Art Collective and director of GaleriaZero. Stoop is represented by MRK Contemporary (Dubai), HellHeaven Art Gallery (Rome/Miami), Singulart (Paris), and BrissArt Gallery (San Sebastián). His paintings reflect a personal ritual and a universal dialogue through abstraction.
