About this artwork
This work, supported by its title, depicts the potential schism between the soft and the rougher sides in a personality and in a relationship. In my experience there are so many dimensions in a human being. and so many ways of exposing them.
The hardness and the softness is reflected through the forms and the colors but it is always a duality and a possible surprise. Under the darker layers of color the lighter is reflected.
Karin Elisabeth Høie is a painter, photographer, and visual artist with formal training from Einar Granum Kunstfagskole and Folkeuniversitetet. She expertly merges acrylic, oil, ink, and photography, favoring nonfigurative, modern painting styles that explore the interplay between defined forms and negative space. Høie’s spontaneous technique, subtle use of color, and occasional figurative photographic work evoke a profound emotional resonance, reflecting her fascination with human relationships and her background in fertility medicine. Her art delicately balances darkness and light, inviting viewers to contemplate the complexities of connection and existence.
