About this artwork
A couple of weeks ago, I went into my garden and noticed that the magnolia was starting to bloom. This has always been such a big event for me. This tree is so beautiful to look at, but the story behind it is also extraordinary. Mrs. Derks planted the tree with her sister as a little girl. She had lived there her entire life, even when we started in our new home that connected our gardens. Mrs.Derks passed away some time ago of elderly age (she must… have been around 84 years old, I think), but she has left such a special gift to our neighborhood. I take pictures of the trees yearly, but I started making new designs with them this year. The size of this painting is 120x160cm, mounted on an aluminum frame, created with photography, printed on paper, glued to the canvas, and finished with gel medium for the structure, acryl, oil paint, and oil sticks. I applied it with brushes, sponges, pallet knives, and fingers. Ready to ship worldwide by professionals.

« I combine the digital and tangible, so I combine two worlds together. »
Karin Vermeer is an independent artist who has lived and worked in Rotterdam since 2002. Her works are created by digitally combining and editing photographs and paintings into new, original works of art. Vermeer specializes in portraits created by overlaying and blending four to five different faces, of different race and origin, to create a new, non existing person. The digital images are printed and paint is added to achieve the final result: an attempt to make a digital image tangible once again.
