About this artwork

Mijn werken ontstaan door het digitaal combineren en bewerken van foto’s en schilderijen tot nieuwe, originele kunstwerken. Ik ben gespecialiseerd in portretten die ontstaan door het overlappen en mengen van verschillende foto’s van verschillende mensen om unieke, niet bestaande personen te creëren. Zo creëer nieuwe beelden door het mixen van foto’s van bijvoorbeeld oude muren, gescheurde posters, verroest staal en allerlei andere opwindende elementen.… Als het digitale gedeelte klaar is, print ik het beeld uit en begin ik eroverheen te schilderen. Ik creëer dikke structuren en veel lagen acryl en olieverf en gel eroverheen. Mijn werk gaat niet over uitleg en concept. Het gaat mij om het prikkelen van de zintuigen. Ik begin zonder idee in het algemeen, maar door te kijken naar foto’s die me interesseren en die te mengen, ontstaat langzaam een nieuw beeld. Ieder schilderij word met de hand gemaakt, individueel iets verschillend in oplages van max. 25 stuks

Karin Vermeer is an independent artist who has lived and worked in Rotterdam since 2002. Her works are created by digitally combining and editing photographs and paintings into new, original works of art. Vermeer specializes in portraits created by overlaying and blending four to five different faces, of different race and origin, to create a new, non existing person. The digital images are printed and paint is added to achieve the final result: an attempt to make a digital image tangible once again.
