About this artwork
This work addresses the complex interrelationships and consequences of the current economic crisis. At its center is a glass vessel held by hands—a symbol of the attempt to maintain order in chaos. Almost unnoticed, a barely visible snake slithers across the image—a symbol of hidden threats that appear silent but penetrating. A cargo ship points to the fragility of global trade. Two bees hint at species extinction and the disturbed ecological balance.…
Banknotes and coins represent the power, but also the limitations, of capital. Onions and poppies recall the threatened foundations of agriculture and food. Airplane silhouettes and a blue bird point to the vulnerability of our environment. A spider in a web symbolizes the feeling of being trapped in an overly complex system.
