About this artwork
I’ve created a series of lion paintings, but I hesitated to paint a lioness at first—she doesn’t have the dramatic mane that gives a male lion such a commanding presence and I find the mane very much fun to paint. Then it struck me: instead of a mane, why not let nature become her backdrop? The landscape itself could frame her strength and grace.
