About this artwork
The obverse of 'Amethyst Cluster' looks, at first sight, like a beautiful cluster of Purple Barnacles growing almost as a bouquet. On closer inspection, and when viewing the reverse, it becomes apparent that the Purple Barnacles have taken over this large 30 litre industrial plastic water bottle lid. Kate Ive is an established sculptor based in Edinburgh, whose works have featured in prizes, exhibitions and collections throughout the UK, Slovakia, Italy and Bulgaria. She composes sculptures on both a minute and monumental scale, always with an attentive eye for detail and an intricate treatment of both material and technique. Her processes include drawing, engraving, casting, metal plating and working with found objects, and her completed works appear at once familiar and unexpected, polished whilst possessing a touch of grit.
