About this artwork
“Deep Sea” originated from the idea of inner transformation – from movements that take place beneath the surface and often remain hidden.
The work delves into the depths between darkness and emergence, between dissolution and new beginnings. It serves as a reminder that darkness does not necessarily signify an end, but can also be the origin of change and growth.
For me, "Deep Sea" represents the quiet unfolding of beauty in secret – those processes… that begin within, long before they become visible. Just as in the depths of the ocean, new forms, perspectives, and possibilities arise within us, often where we least expect them.
Katharina Alexandra Schewtschenko is a self-taught artist who works primarily with acrylic paint, structural materials, and multi-layered surfaces. Using techniques such as diluted acrylic paint, organic gradients, layering, and uncovering, she creates unique, abstract pictorial worlds dominated by depth, materiality, and spatial structures. Her works convey an intense tension between chaos and order, rupture and tranquility—inviting viewers to understand transformation as a creative and hopeful process.
