About this artwork
The work "Tightrope Act" is an informal mixed-media painting. This means that the material takes center stage. The forms dissolve, or rather, the formal language does not conform to any learned pattern (such as a triangle, square, etc.). The painting was created on a heavy wooden support that was specially built for me. It is based on dark layers of ash and soot, which were then successively overlaid with other layers of pigment and rock flour, partially…
revealed again through incisions and décollage.
The artwork is framed in a narrow, lightly white-oiled oak frame, custom-made by a carpenter. The picture can be mounted directly to the wall with two screws/anchors.

Katja Gramann is a German artist whose painting follows the tradition of Art Informel. All of her works are consistently abstract. Her works have been exhibited in Germany in numerous solo and group events. Katja Gramann has also been successfully represented by a gallery in Belgium since 2022. Her participation in a summer exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art in London in 2022 also brought her international recognition. The artist pursues three styles in her painting: acrylic painting, mixed media (using ash, pigments, rock flour, charcoal, rust, and paper), and abstract collages made of fine Chinese paper, which Gramann colors herself, dries, and then arranges into a painting in a multi-layered process. Since 2021, Katja Gramann has been teaching painting at independent art academies in Vienna, Kolbermoor, and Bad Heilbrunn.
