About this artwork
The collage "Yippie No. 9" is made of Chinese paper on wood. The artist dyed the very fine paper herself, choosing bright and cheerful colors such as orange, purple, and green combined with white pigments. After it has dried, she tears the pieces of paper she likes into pieces. Gramann then rearranges them on the support, creating a new composition with many overlapping layers of paper. The title "Yippie" refers to the positive energy the painting…
conveys. It has a vibrant and very positive effect on the viewer.

Katja Gramann is a German artist whose painting follows the tradition of Art Informel. All of her works are consistently abstract. Her works have been exhibited in Germany in numerous solo and group events. Katja Gramann has also been successfully represented by a gallery in Belgium since 2022. Her participation in a summer exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art in London in 2022 also brought her international recognition. The artist pursues three styles in her painting: acrylic painting, mixed media (using ash, pigments, rock flour, charcoal, rust, and paper), and abstract collages made of fine Chinese paper, which Gramann colors herself, dries, and then arranges into a painting in a multi-layered process. Since 2021, Katja Gramann has been teaching painting at independent art academies in Vienna, Kolbermoor, and Bad Heilbrunn.
