About this artwork
In Greek mythology, Scylla is a nymph who was transformed into a sea monster by the sorceress Circe. Together with Charybdis, who can transform into a whirlwind, they guard the Strait of Messina between Italy and Sicily, and the Odyssey tells how they almost swallowed the legendary Greek hero Odysseus.
Handcrafted canvas, made of silver leaf sealed with a treatment for long-term durability of the colors.
Picture Frame is personally and individually… selected by the artist and professionally, conservationally and sustainably custom-made by hand.
Katja Nagel is a German-Greek artist who lives and works in Munich and on the island of Hydra. Her work combines symbolic worlds of color with poetic mythology. Her painting evolves in series that explore themes such as nature, origin, myth, and identity. She maintains a strong connection to Greece — culturally, emotionally, and geographically. Over the past three years, Katja Nagel has rapidly established herself in the art market, right from the very beginning. In 2023, she held a pop-up gallery in Munich for one evening. In 2024, the Historical Archive Museum of Hydra showed her AEGEO series in a four-week solo exhibition, followed in 2025 by a threeweek solo presentation of her GAIA series in a renowned Athens gallery. Both exhibitions received extensive coverage from the press and the public. She has sold more than 40 works so far. Visit her virtual gallery here: https://virtualgallery.katja-nagel.art/
