About this artwork
Pasiphae, “Who shines for all,” was the daughter of the sun god Helios and the Oceanid Perse(sis). As wife of King Minos of Crete, she gave birth to eight children, including Ariadne and Akakallis. Like her niece Medea, she was powerful with magic, which she also used against some rivals. In mythology it says: as punishment for a bull sacrifice that Minos had embezzled, Poseidon made Pasiphae fall in love with a white, magical bull and the desire…
to unite with it. In this way she conceived a hybrid creature, half animal, half human, the Minotaur.
In my current figure cycle, I immersed myself in Greek following my passion for mythological images, forms and stories. My bronzes, preferably female figures, wear long robes decorated with letters and are all unique pieces. I created them as studies or as models to work out the form for much larger sculptures.

Katrin Süss is an experienced multidisciplinary artist based in Germany whose works have been exhibited nationally, in Spain and the United States. Employing materials both conceptually and thematically, her works explore a "universal view of things", as well as relationships in our coexistence. For Süss, circles and spirals are a means through which to physically experience the elemental force of the principles of order.
