About this artwork
The final self-portrait in the series of Abstract Self-Portraits became the Abstract Parent. The work showed me how a painting turns into an investigation, into a fantastic discovery!
In "Parent", I tried to move away from the classic authority, teaching, or moralism, which carries the role of Parent. I wanted to find something deeper and more meaningful. In the process of painting, I was looking for the answer that would show me "what is my inner… parent?", "What do I invest in this role?".
This approach opened the way for me to study the unconscious processes and brought them to the stratum of the genus, the roots.
The totem painted on the face expresses a radical reference to the genus, magic and tribe. When support was expressed not so much in words, pats on the shoulder or presence nearby, but in rituals, the divinity of the unknown, the spiritualization of the inanimate, the sharpness and sensitivity to signs.
