I recently got to know Patti Smith, and I have a new friend. Listening to her interviews, readings from her book and her poems, I fell silent. So beautiful and wise.
While driving through the North Holland landscape I felt that I had to represent Patti differently then the Black Power Woman. Suddenly something opened, a portal to an unlimited space in which energy shapes unimpeded.

May I be nothing
but the peeling of a lotus
papering… the distance
for you underfoot
one lone skin
to lift and fashion
as a cap to cradle
Your bowing head
an ear to hear
the great horn
a slipper to mount
the temple step
one lone skin
giving birth to this wish
May Your hands be full
or nothing
May Your toys
scatter the sky
tiny yellow bundles
bursting like stars
like smiles
and the laughter
or a bell
