About this artwork
Reason why Kay started to paint is because he was suddenly struck by the combination of the sound of the gulls and the sea, and the fragrancy the wind carried of the sea and the sand. The gulls, masters of turbulence with their loud cries. In his paintings Kay wants to join them. He loves to visit the islands in the north of The Netherlands and especially Terschelling. When he takes the ferry to the island the gulls are always nearby, waiting for…
food or fish that is being drawn to the surface by the engines.
The painting is covered with a layer of shiny epoxy, that gives the flying birds extra depth. On the photo it is hard to catch the effect of the epoxy, but you can watch the video.
