About this artwork
In this painting the woman is holding a small tea kettle, wearing quite the sexy outfit. In all the paintings in this body of work, the women are wearing evocative outfits - both calling attention to her sexual power, and fully claiming herself in it.
This painting is challenging the predominant male social structures that view women as their sole purpose is to serve men. This is not her purpose in life. In many parts of the world, women become… trapped in marriages and religious structures that bind them into servitude. This is a form of modern day slavery.
This painting is drawing attention to this role men and patriarchal structure try to force women into. The look on the face of the woman in this painting is one of disdain and anger. While she may make you tea and serve you tea, she is not your servant, so don’t treat her that way. Sometimes I debate adding the word “F’in” into this title. It gives it a bit more attitude and more fully expresses the sentiment.
« My works explore the inter-relationship between abstract form and shape - how form speaks to other form, how they intertwine and engage - how you cannot have the one without the other. »
Kerry is an abstract painter who explores the themes of love and connection through the interplay of form and space in her signature collection Metaphorical Relationships. These works are zen-like white organic forms within rich and bold colorfields. They bring positive energy and peacefulness to any space. These works are accompanied with love poems that expand on the work’s interpretation.
Kerry also creates feminist avant-garde large-scale works exploring reclaiming the male gaze through the eyes of a female painter. These works use provocative imagery and words to showcase feminine power and beauty. Her Shadow Stories series explore aspects of our shadow selves.
Kerry holds a Master of Arts from California State University. Her works adorn homes and businesses throughout the United States and Europe. She owns a gallery and artist studio in Solana Beach, CA
