About this artwork
A reflection upon the historical fact that male artists have often used women as their inspirational muses. Either using the women directly as a model (most often nude) or tapping her intellectual or creative talents as a source for material. In this way, the man uses the woman’s life force. In many cases, men outright steal women’s artistic processes, intellectual property or discoveries and claim them as their own.
At the same time, being… a person’s muse can be a deeply rewarding experience and flattering, if it is a symbiotic and mutual relationship, versus exploitative. In this painting the woman both invites the man in with her delicate flower resting on her shoulder, while warning him to not take advantage of her, with the gun calmly resting in her hand. She wears a coy expression on her face, fully knowing she has creative, intellectual, and inspirational powers that the man desires. She decides whether she shares this with him or not.
