About this artwork
This painting was created during the cold and lonesome winter of 2020 to 2021.
This painting reflects my love of German Expressionism in a contemporary way.
I was thinking about the child's pose of yoga, how it could be a sign of peace of of exhaustion or despair. I choose to place the figures under water because water can be cleansing, peaceful or sometimes formidable and unpredictable.
Creating this piece was very healing for me, I hope the viewer… finds healing as well.
High quality oil paints and stretcher bars were used to create this piece and It can be shipped stretched or unstretched with the stretcher bars. I also used many transparent layers of oil paint, like Caravaggio did in his paintings; which creates dense dark colors which really glow in person.

« I believe the job of an artist is to feel everything as intensely as possible and then to channel those emotions into a medium for translation. »
Kiera Stuart is an award-winning artist based in the United States whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. Through her works, she processes her personal struggles, experiences, body, and identity as a queer woman, as well as the human condition. For Stuart, creating organic linear patterns is a meditative process. Her striking abstractions and figurative works are translated via acrylics and oils on canvas.
