About this artwork
My work is a dialogue between what is “inside” the boundaries drawn by society and what lies “beyond” them. I first painted free-spirited colors on hanji, then trapped them with the black lines of “definition.” Yet, the true weight of the painting lies in the heavy, pearlescent and metallic hues that densely fill every space outside those lines. This compressed layer is the physical embodiment of the “violence of definition” that crushes us. But…
within this pressure, the colors refuse to be silenced, crying out their essence. This is both a portrait of oppression and a declaration: We are colors that refuse to be trapped within the lines.
