About this artwork
This painting was originally a section of a giant chalk board map of Camberwell, London. The map was part of a project at the Camberwell Arts Festival in Summer 2019 where participants could make the map of the neighbourhood in chalk and draw on where they lived as well as places in the neighbourhood that were important to them. Kimbal Bumstead is an experienced artist from the United Kingdom whose work has been featured in solo and group shows internationally. After seeing Mark Rothko's paintings as a child, Bumstead was moved by them and inspired to create art himself, performing and capturing traces of everyday life through his practice. Using oil paints, he builds layers of bright colors and geometric forms to create vibrant abstract works influenced by both real and imagined spaces.
