About this artwork
COTIS smiles with quiet restraint as others offer advice, instructions and ready-made plans for his life. He listens politely, though inside everything is burning. At last, he says: “Please, do not order me, guide me or decide for me anymore.”
He has spent too long being seen as weak, dependent and easy to control. Others speak as if they know him better than he knows himself, unaware that beneath his calm surface grows resistance. COTIS does not… impose himself, yet he remains firm. He moves forward quietly, faithful to his decisions, even when everyone around him claims to know better.
The hardest word is often “no”, especially when spoken to those closest to us. We fear hurting them, creating conflict or disappointing them, and slowly abandon our own plans. COTIS refuses to disappear. Sensitive, determined and slightly puzzled by the world, he follows his path and carries out his plans. The full story is available on the website konradziolkowskiart.

Konrad Ziolkowski is a Polish sculptor working primarily in stone, bronze, and mixed media, carrying on his family's sculptural heritage and academic training from the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts. He employs a synthesis of traditional and contemporary techniques, combining the endurance of stone with the expressive potential of bronze and elements like glass and light, crafting simplified, symbolic forms and integrating original texts with each piece. His sculptures evoke deep introspection, inviting viewers into a personal, emotional dialogue that resonates with memory, tenderness, and the poignant ambiguity of human experience.
